Headquartered at Tbilisi International Airport in Georgia’s capital city, Georgian Airways, formerly known as Airzena, is Georgia’s privately owned national flag carrier. It is in the midst of extreme financial woes, hastened by Russia’s invasion of Georgia in 2008 which crippled the country’s tourism industry and saw Georgia lose control of swathes of territory. Georgian Airways filed for bankruptcy in 2021 and has been up for sale since 2022, with few interested parties.

Despite these troubles, the airline continues to operate a handful of profitable routes with its much-reduced fleet of four aircraft, each a different model. Georgian Airways operates a Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800, Bombardier CRJ200LR, Bombardier Challenger 850 and a further 737-800 used for cargo services. Destinations served by Georgian Airways despite its troubles include Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Tel Aviv. Flights to Russia continue, with daily flights to Moscow from Tbilisi, and three weekly flights to Saint Petersburg.
