Azimuth Airlines was born out of the merger between two Russian airlines in 2016, Donavia and Rossiya Airlines. This meant that the important city of Rostov-on-Don lost its main airline, and as a host city for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, this was a problem.

Based in Rostov-on-Don and with hubs at Russia’s Platov International Airport and Krasnodar International Airport, the airline serves almost exclusively domestic routes, with what few international connections it did operate mostly having been hampered by the country’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and subsequent sanctions imposed by Western governments. Domestic destinations include Sochi, St Petersburg, Moscow and Kaliningrad. Surviving international destinations are mostly confined to countries in Russia’s geopolitical sphere, such as Minsk in Belarus, Tbilisi in Georgia and Yerevan in Armenia. Other destinations include Dubai, Istanbul and Sharm-el-Sheikh.

The company’s fleet is comprised of Russian made Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.
