This low-cost airline is also the largest in Malayasia by fleet size and destinations offered and is familiar to many international audiences as a former sponsor of Manchester United football club and as a sponsor of pop star Taylor Swift’s Red Tour in 2013 – 2014. CEO Tony Fernandes is also owner of the Caterham Group and once ran a Formula One team; he was also the majority shareholder of Queens Park Rangers football club in London until 2023.

Founded in 1993, AirAsia is based at Kuala Lumpur International and has a fleet of more than 250 aircraft when including all of its subsidiary airlines. These include AirAsia Cambodia, AirAsia X, Indonesia AirAsia and Thai AirAsia. The fleet is comprised mainly of Airbus A320-200 aircraft, with almost 30 Airbus A320neo’s also in service.

AirAsia travels to more than 160 destinations in 25 countries, though these are all regional Asian destinations, plus Australia. Other destinations include Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, India, Japan, China and Bangladesh. AirAsia’s subsidiary, AirAsia X tackles more long haul routes.
