Headquartered in the Algerian capital, Algiers and with its main hub at the city’s Houari Boumediene Airport, Air Algerie is the country’s national flag carrier and the third largest airline in Africa by fleet size. The airline manages 55 aircraft, fewer only than Ethiopian Airlines (135 aircraft) and Egypt Air (71 aircraft). The bulk of Air Algerie’s fleet is comprised of Boeing 737-800, Airbus A330-200 and ATR 72-500 aircraft, with eight of the troubled Boeing 737 MAX 9 also on order and due to be delivered in 2027.

Air Algerie connects 35 domestic destinations, including smaller cities that are infrequently served by other airlines, making Air Algerie incredibly important for regional connectivity. It also operates flights to numerous lesser-connected African countries, including Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger and Cameroon. European destinations include Brussels, Geneva, London, Madrid and Paris, whilst Air Algerie also flies selected longer haul routes, including to Beijing, Montreal, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow and Dubai.
