As one of Mongolia’s three national airlines, Aero Mongolia predominantly offers domestic services connecting the country’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, to regional destinations in what is the world’s 18th largest country. Founded in 2001, it is headquartered at the city’s Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport and also has a hub at Mongolia’s only international airport, Chinggis Khaan International Airport.

Domestic destinations include Altai, Dalanzadgad, Moron, Ovoot and Tavan Tolgoi, whilst it also operates flights to a handful of international destinations. These include Hohhot and Urumqi in China, Tokyo, Hanoi and the Siberian city of Irkutsk, in Russia. It also announced in March 2024 that it intends to increase the frequency of flights from Ulaanbaatar to Seoul. Aero Mongolia’s small fleet primarily consists of Airbus A319-100 and Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft, which replaced the airline’s Fokker 50’s in 2018.

Although Aero Mongolia has a good flight safety record, with no fatalities or injuries on any flight, it has twice seen its operations suspended due to failed safety checks, in 2007 and 2009.
